RR7814B EAST AFRICAN SAFARI RALLY 1978 For 26 years, motoring enthusiasts in East Africa have hosted one of the classic events in the motor sporting calendar - the Safari Rally. In 1978, they really got their money's worth! It was the roughest, toughest safari they can remember. Of 68 starters, only 15 crews survived after floodwaters washed away vital tracks, and shortcuts were lost in a sea of mud. But there was a fairy-tale finish - the winner being Jean-Pierre Nicolas, the French outsider who had already pulled off a brilliant victory in the Monte Carlo Rally.
