After trekking the Kilimanjaro there's no better place to heal your wounds than on the island of Zanzibar. Filled with history, delicious fruits and picturesque beaches, its a place you need to visit if your in Tanzania. While staying in a hostel in Numqwi I had arranged to join a snorkeling tour near the Coast of Mnemba Island, which I heard was partly owned by Bill Gates. Roughly 30 minutes into the rocky boat ride I starting developing sea sickness, thankfully I popped a few gravols and it subsided. I was even lucky enough to spot a few dolphins surfacing near the boat. Snorkeling in the crisp Indian Ocean was an incredible experience the variety of colourful fish was amazing. After our snorkeling we had a seafood lunch on the pristine beaches of matemwe. A beach where the water was so clear it was like being in a screensaver. Truly one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve been on. Zanzibar is a vibrant island with an impressive Middle Eastern influence. From the spice tours to the historical stone town, there is lots to take in and learn. With incredibly beautiful beaches at the northern part of the island near Numqwi, you can try snorkeling in the Indian Ocean, and if you’re lucky enough you can also spot dolphins on your way to the snorkeling site. And the variety of delicious exotic delicious fruits available is amazing. Matemwe Beautiful beaches with stunning sunsets, numqwi is situated in the northern part of the island and is a much laid back place to relax. There is a small downtown area were most go to have drinks, eat good soul food are party the night out. Stone Town Historical stone town is filled with remnants of the past. From the east African slave trade with the Middle East to the colonial Portuguese castles you will learn a lot about Zanzibar’s history. You can also visit the house where rock legend Freddy Mercury was born. A trip to the local food market is also worth visiting.
